Welcome to CraftyWeeBee's Hive of Craftivity
Sew, here goes!
I
took up sewing rather late in life, I didn't have a very good
experience with it at school, it was a chore & I hated it. It
didn't help that the teacher used to stand behind me tutting rather
loudly, & rather a lot, as I tried to get to grips with making a brown
denim skirt and failing miserably. The denim skirt was never
finished. That was in 1972!
In the summer of 2019 after a couple of years of thinking about getting a sewing machine I finally made a crazy bid on a second hand machine on eBay and to my surprise it was accepted. I had a sewing machine but there were a couple of important parts missing, the shank & some feet to go on it. Amazon soon delivered what I needed and I raided a local charity shop or two for some suitable fabric - 2 pairs of curtains for £4 was a good start for practicing.
I kept it simple, a sewing mat with pockets, a basic cover for my machine as it didn't have one were a start.
Within a couple of months I'd sold the old one for what I paid for it & got a brand new machine.
Shortly after that the bag making started.!
It was at this time I decided I now needed a serger (overlocker) & got myself a bargain - by the time lockdown started in ernest between scrub bags & face coverings it was getting a lot of use. Another bargain appeared on Amazon - a Brother electronic machine that was half price ("Warehouse" department is a wonderfu placel!) - I had gone from no machine to 4 machines in less than a year although 2 of those have now been sold! I think that could mean I may be addicted to sewing!
For me sewing is
a bit of a long process as I need frequent breaks - as my wee Granny
used to say, "Auld age disnae come itsel'!" In my case it's arthritis in
the spine & hands which means not all the sweary words coming from the machine's direction are caused by my frustration with silly mistakes. This means my makes could be said to be "Made with Love & Lots of sweary words!"
