Totes Unique - Mini Wallets

Pattern - Lewis Wallet by Spencer-Ogg

  Mini Wallets

I spotted this pattern ages ago and "filed it under L for Later".

The other week my son came down stairs wearing a favourite T-shirt & pointing to two large tears in it said "I think I'm going to have to say goodbye to this" & took it off.   I decided I was going to put it to use and make him a face covering when I remembered the Lewis Wallet pattern and decided to make him one of those instead so teamed it up with some Cordura as an outer.  To be honest, it really wasn't one of my best efforts as the interfacing I used to stabilise the t-shirt fabric made for bulky seams and a wavy finish to the inside but he's happy with it & when I said I'd make another was told "Dinnae be daft".

I also realised I hadn't made any "gizzits" for the SAM Veterans group recently and had been pondering what to make for them so once I worked out what was causing the wobbly insides (bulky seams) it was time to have a go at a few different ones.

I've added a set of press stud dies to my "Green Machine" collection - I think the 15mm brass studs on the waxed cotton wallet look rather nice.

Totes Unique - Portable, Folding Water Bowl

Portable, Folding Water Bowl

I've taken a pattern for a fabric basket/podlet, which has no internal seams made it in waterproof Cordura lined with waterproof Ripstop nylon to turn it into a portable folding doggy water/food bowl. It folds down to fit in a pocket.

This particular one was made to take with us on days out & about with our wee JRT.

To check for leakage I left water in the bowl for over 3 hours and it was fine. That said, the bowl is only intended for occasional, not continual, use.

Totes Unique - Belt Bags

Pattern - "Bummity" by Spencer-Ogg

Belt Bags

Some may call them bum bags, others call them fanny packs but as these particular bags are designed to go on a belt, I'll call them Belt Bags.

These are simple, pouch-like, bags with a long belt holder at the back.  These are handy for going out & about on holiday as they can either be hand carried or placed on a belt to keep it close to the body.

These particular bags were made for Service Veterans.
I used a brown, distressed, soft faux leather for two of them, as I'd already made some "Bag Buddies" in a brown pebble effect faux leather I made a matching bag to go with them (all from patterns by Spencer-Ogg). Lastly, I also made one in some Camo cotton drill fabric.  Whilst they can fit any belt around 1"/25cm wide, I did make a webbing belt with side buckles just in case anyone needed it.

I bought myself a "Green Machine" rivet press a few weeks ago but hadn't really used it - I made up for that on this project.

Totes Unique - Sunshine Birthday Gift

Sunshine Birthday Gift

Last year, June 2020, my husband's niece was due to marry, then came Covid-19 and restrictions meant it had to be put on hold.  The postponed wedding now goes ahead this week, exactly 365 days  later than planned.

Early last year I made four small fabric bags for the bride & her 3 bridesmaids to carry essentials, however there are now 4 bridesmaids so I thought as she was also celebrating a "big" Birthday, I'd make the bride something different as a gift.  Some pieces of different fabric were left over from dress fittings & mask making so
I decided to make the new bag a memory of the day by incorporating some of the pieces into it.

As there was no fabric from the wedding dress to make a mask I made the bride's face covering from a Makower light cream cotton fabric, "Doodle Ditsy" and added an ivory lace cover it.The Groom, Best Man & Page Boys were made in Makower "Spraytime, Black" which, from a distance, looks quite velvety.

For the pattern, I used the Bagstock Designs Sunshine Crossbody. It was printed off with the size reduced to 80% to give a bag with a boxed base constructed as a smaller wristlet clutch with two carry options; either by the front clutch strap or by its detachable wristlet strap.

The main panels for the bag are ivory faux leather and fabric taken from 2 different bridesmaid's dresses. The ivory cotton & lace used for the bride's mask was used for the lining & both internal pockets are lined with the bridesmaids' satin fabric (I forgot to take the photos of the interior).

They say it's good luck to put a coin in a bag you give as a gift so I thought as I'd found an old sixpence while looking through some boxes, I'd get 2 birds at once so the bride can follow the rhyme:

Something old,

Something new,

Something borrowed,

Something blue

And a silver sixpence for her shoe.

I'm very happy to say that the Bride loves her present.

Totes Unique - Sunshine Wristlet - Ocean Wave

Totes Unique - Ocean Wave

Totes Unique Ocean Wave was created from the Bagstock Designs pattern "Sunshine Wristlet" which I have modified to produce a rounded boxed base to make it more roomy inside.  Inside are both slip and zipped pockets.

This is a very versatile pattern and can be made in a wide range of fabrics.  For this bag I have made the side panels in navy "antique" waxed cotton with the main panels & lining are from an Aldi "Ocean Wave" bundle.

The main zipper is in navy with rainbow teeth with a rainbow star pull.  The remaining hardware is in gunmetal.

This is the same pattern as the Grey Thomson Tartan bag with a change of wristlet style, this version has a detachable strap.

I think that with the wider base this would make a really nice small cross body bag for those days when you don't really need to carry too much with you. The addition of a couple of strap anchors and some card slots might just do the trick.  That is something I may have to try in the not too distant future!
